Jessica Steele, heating technology expert at BestHeating, has revealed five pieces of advice to assist plumbing and heating professionals in getting their customers “winter-ready”.
Emphasise the importance of bleeding radiators
Jessica said: “Trapped air in radiators can reduce heating efficiency, resulting in uneven warmth across the home. By advising customers to bleed their radiators ahead of winter, plumbers can ensure better heat distribution and prevent unnecessary callouts.”
Remind to check and adjust boiler pressure
“Encourage customers to regularly check their boiler pressure to see if the gauge is indicating a pressure level between 1 to 2 bars when the system is cold. If they’re unsure how to adjust it, it’s a simple job for plumbers that could prevent larger issues later on.”
Suggest insulation for exposed pipes
“Exposed pipes, particularly in colder areas like lofts or garages, are at risk of freezing. Suggest pipe insulation to customers as a quick, cost-effective solution to avoid burst pipes and costly repairs when temperatures drop.”
Ensure they have an annual boiler service scheduled
“A boiler that hasn’t been serviced is more likely to break down in winter. Now is the perfect time for plumbers to remind their customers to book a service before the cold weather hits and diaries start to fill up.”
Recommend smart technology for enhanced control
Jess added: “Smart thermostats allow homeowners to control their heating with precision, reducing energy waste and optimising warmth. Plumbers should suggest this upgrade to customers looking to improve efficiency and comfort this winter.”
