Stelrad reports ‘Green Compact’ radiator series success

Stelrad Radiators has reported on the success of its Green Compact radiator range.

Stelrad Radiators said the steel utilised in the manufacture of these Green Compact radiators is XCarb recycled and renewably produced steel, which is made in an electric arc furnace with high recycled content and 100% renewable electricity. Using this low-emissions steel results in a 66% reduction in CO₂ emissions per tonne of steel, it added, compared with using the same product made via the conventional steelmaking process.

The Green Compact comes with an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). According to a statement, an EPD reports objective, comparable and third-party verified data about products’ environmental performance over the lifecycle of the radiator. This guarantees a thorough and verifiable declaration in line with the ISO 14025 standard for environmental labels and declarations, it noted.

Chris Harvey, Stelrad’s head of marketing, said: “This is proving to be an exciting step for us to take. Continuing our move towards greener manufacturing and providing better information through the Green Compact EPD fits in perfectly with our Group’s sustainability policy. The Stelrad Green Series comprises of 60 horizontal models from our Green Compact range.

“The concept is already being well received by many of our customers who are keen to see more sustainable products being utilised in their homes and buildings. As well as the reduction in carbon emissions, no plastic will be used for the outer packaging either, further increasing the sustainability of the product range – and of course, a radiator is 100% recyclable.”

Each radiator in the range will continue to bear a ‘Green Series’ radiator badge distinguishing them from the standard ranges and come with a green packaging label.

Chris added: “We’ll be rolling the new series out from April 2025 onwards. This is an important confirmatory step for us to provide products that use materials with significantly lower carbon emissions and that support the decarbonisation of steel and our partners ArcelorMittal, who are working with market leaders across a variety of industries, to supply decarbonised steel products.

“We believe that many of our customers are seeking ways of reducing their impact on the environment and will welcome these low carbon-emissions radiators and incorporate them into their projects in the months and years ahead. The EPD is available via our website.”
