David Broom, new build partnerships director at Kensa, has commented on how the UK’s current energy pricing system is punishing consumers and needs urgent reform.

He said: “This price cap rise is no joke for the millions of people waking up to higher energy bills. Even though households use less heating in the warmer months, gas standing charges will increase which households have to pay regardless of how much energy they use. This is another reminder that our energy pricing system needs urgent reform. Right now, it punishes consumers for things beyond their control.

“Our continued reliance on volatile, imported gas is the fundamental problem. The UK must prioritise homegrown, renewable energy solutions and accelerate the deployment of heat pumps, which are already three to four times more efficient than gas boilers. Without decisive action to cut electricity costs and phase out fossil fuel heating, high bills will be here to stay.”
