Building Services Engineering Training (BEST), a national vocational training provider for the building services sector, has restructured its management and assessment teams to bolster its delivery of apprenticeships and other courses across the UK.
Leading with the appointment of Steve Leighton as chief operations officer to head up the business, the move has included a full review of its service, in consultation with its holding organisation, B&ES. As a result of this, BEST will be increasing its range of qualifications: from short course delivery to bespoke training for employers.
Steve is supported by Paul Harrison, who has been appointed as the operations manager, responsible for maintaining the quality of BEST’s national delivery of electrical, mechanical and building services engineering project management courses, and heading up the team of experienced training advisors in England and Wales. The BEST office, near Edinburgh, continues to be headed up by Tom McManus.

“We will be working closely with key partners within the industry, including our network of training centres across the UK, in order to ensure we provide employers with a focused and bespoke approach to their training needs, including training outside of apprenticeship frameworks.”
BEST has also extended its strategic partnership with the EAS Group for the provision of assessment and training services in England and Wales for BSE project management, electrotechnical and mechanical apprenticeships. This continued alliance follows the company’s ongoing commitment to consistent, national delivery of the highest possible quality of apprenticeship training. It also ensures a delivery service for training in England and Wales, with a firm commitment towards further research and development of training provision to meet the needs of employers, learners and the wider industry sectors.
Under the new structure, employers will continue to receive the dedicated support and one to one contact with their advisor, who will assist them all the way from recruitment to timely completion of the training programme. Apprentices will also benefit from an allocated mentor and assessor who will work with them throughout the duration of their training, and liaise directly with both their employer and college or training centre.
