Question from Glenn Fisher, via email:
What is the minimum recommended size for a cold water storage tank?
Answer from Martyn Bridges, director of marketing & technical support at Worcester, Bosch Group:
Unfortunately this is a rather complex question which isn’t really answerable without the full details of the following being available:
• The size of the dwelling
• Number of outlets
• Type of building and its function
• Number of occupants
• Whether there are any requirements for fire protection
Design codes and guides recommend that storage is provided to cover the interruption of the incoming mains supply in order to maintain a water supply to the building. The British Standard covering this subject is BS6700 and I recommend this is consulted, as it would be unwise to make a recommendation of sizing without all the information being available.
