Question from Charles Helen, via e-mail:
I need to replace part of an old clay land drain in my garden. I’m sure it would have been produced in imperial measurements. What size will I need to buy to match today’s products?
Answer from Steve Harris – technical services engineer at Wavin:
The Hepworth clay land drainage tiles are in 300mm lengths and the old imperial diameter pipes virtually match the new metric ones of today. There is, however, no physical joint made with land drain as the pipes are just butted up to each other. This would therefore be no great problem if the pipe diameters were slightly different. We do a 75mm version which matches the old 3″, 100mm matches 4″, 150mm matches 6″, while the 225mm version matches 8″. For further information please call our help line on 0870 443 5551.
