Question from Daniel Adams, via e-mail:
How should my local merchant be helping me with the upcoming Part G legislation?
Answer from Kelvin Stevens, managing director of PTS:
Part G is being introduced on October 1, 2009 and refers to the compulsory use of thermostatic mixing valves (TMVs) to prevent hot water scolding. There has traditionally been resistance by the trade regarding TMVs, due to certain anti-scald products, which had a negative effect on the performance of domestic taps and meant that the pressure was greatly reduced. Merchants need to combat this by providing advice on the best TMVs on the market. PTS developed a range of own brand BOSS TMVs in 2003 and by doing this we can ensure that installers have a product which meets Part G while maintaining water pressure.
