Ambion Heating “ideal for small homes”, says Bellway

According to a new report from Bellway, Ambion’s infrared heat panel system is an “ideal solution for flats and maisonettes”.

Bellway’s report said: “Radiant heating systems give a developer the option to transition to electrical heating without the need to locate an external air source heat pump (ASHP) unit – something which is particularly relevant for flats and maisonettes.”

The report from Bellway follows the findings from Energy House 2.0, a new study from the University of Salford set to provide the blueprint for future low-carbon homes in the UK.

Alongside the heating performance of Ambion’s heat panels, the report from researchers at the university also cited Ambion’s low installation and upfront costs, a key challenge for housing providers and developers. Ambion’s upfront costs are typically lower than the latest-generation storage heaters, it noted, and installation can be carried out by any qualified electrician.

The Bellway report stated that Ambion’s control system can be used with solar PV and smart tariffs, optimising the use of on-site renewable energy.

The Ambion system uses algorithms which spread the heat demand across the 24-hour period to provide a low and even load with no spikes, it noted, switching heaters on at different intervals to further reduce load. The report added that this makes the system “ideal” for solar and smart tariffs, which can provide typical savings of 50%.

The system tested in Bellway’s Future Home at Energy House 2.0 evidenced “high levels of accuracy and control”, the report found. The control system is designed for infrared radiant heat and uses computer algorithms rather than thermostats to control the energy input.

Oliver Baker, Ambion’s CEO, said: “We’re thrilled that Energy House 2.0 and Bellway have validated the exceptional heating performance of Ambion’s low-carbon system. This study and subsequent report confirm that the Ambion system provides a reliable, comfortable and controllable heating solution, particularly for smaller, multi-occupancy homes where heat pumps are not suitable.

“Ambion’s infrared heat panels are ideal for flats and smaller properties, filling the vital gap left by heat pumps, and ensuring that smaller properties aren’t left behind in the transition to a cleaner energy future.

“Our system offers low upfront cost with no requirement for routine maintenance. It also provides affordable heating, with superior compatibility with solar PV and smart tariffs further improving the affordability of a warm home.”
