A leading heating and plumbing distributor has been awarded one of industry’s most reputable certificates for occupational health and safety management systems. Inta, which is based in Staffordshire, achieved the OHSAS 18001 certification, a leading international standard which helps organisations demonstrate sound occupational health and safety performance.
The distributor, which is the UK’s leader in anti-scald bathroom products, was awarded the OHSAS 18001 certification by SGS United Kingdom Ltd, after an independent auditor recognised Inta’s commitment to demonstrating diligence.
Designed to minimise risk to employees, improve existing occupational health and safety management systems and gain assurance by employees, the OHSAS 18001 standard is considered one of the best to achieve due to its structured framework, as well as its cost effective and efficient operations.
Cynthia Fisher, director at Inta, said: “Our staff’s safety and wellbeing is our top priority which is why we wanted to achieve this certification, as well as obtain a guide for constant improvement.
“It’s quite normal for businesses whose employees work in manual labour jobs, such as manufacturers, to strive to achieve this certification as those jobs are considered high-risk.
“It’s more unusual for a distributor to want to obtain it though, as a lot of employers believe desk jobs don’t pose any real hazards. However, as a bathroom distributor where anti-scald technology is at the heart of everything we do, we know that something as simple as a hot water tap can pose a dangerous threat to employees. We therefore wanted to have a proper framework in place to ensure we meet proper health and safety measures, helping us to avoid accidents in the workplace, reduce illness and improve employee motivation.”
