Daisy Turner from Barking and Dagenham College has been announced as the HIP Learner of the Year 2024, following an two-day final on the 11 and 12 of April at the JTL Birmingham Training Centre. Zak Rowan from Grimsby Institute earned the runner-up spot.
Daisy said: “I still can’t believe it! The prizes and the overall experience have truly been overwhelming. I’d encourage anyone considering participating next year to absolutely go for it.”
The competition began in January, with Level 2 and 3 plumbing students competing from across six regional locations in England and Wales. The judges narrowed down to seven finalists at the regional heats, before crowning the winner and runner-up at last week’s grand finale.
This year’s event was supported by Viessmann, Wolseley Plumb Centre, Milwaukee, Aalberts IPS, Kingspan, Polypipe Underfloor Heating, Stelrad, Triton, WaterSafe, Wilo, Snickers Workwear, Talon, The Worshipful Company of Plumbers, Yorkshire Copper Tube, FIX Radio and the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE).
Zoe Tanner, managing director at HIP, added: “The final was nothing short of spectacular. Each competitor has demonstrated remarkable skill and should be proud of their achievements. We’re excited to see what next year brings as the talent this year has indeed set a promising precedent for the future of plumbing.”
