Heatio has been named Equity-Backed StartUp of the Year at the UK finals of the StartUp Awards 2024. The company was founded in 2022 by Simon Roberts and Thomas Farquhar.
A statement said that the category recognises businesses that illustrate that strategic partnerships and substantial funding are key ingredients for entrepreneurial success, enabling them to grow and make a significant impact.
Heatio said it aims to make the transition to low-carbon technology more accessible through its smart home energy platform, which gives users real-time energy insights to optimise their smart home technology. Using AI and machine learning, the company said it will manage technologies such as solar panels, heat pumps, EV chargers and batteries, to help users save money, and reduce reliance on the grid and their impact on the environment.
Simon Roberts, chief executive of Heatio, said: “We are delighted to receive this national recognition amongst some other fantastic, pioneering businesses. The award is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the whole Heatio team who are passionate about improving accessibility and incentivising the adoption of low-carbon technology in UK homes. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to our investors who continue to show us unwavering support and confidence.”
Earlier this year, Heatio secured £2m in investment, through an oversubscribed investment round, which was supported by Brabners LLP and led by Ascension, with support from a number of co-investors, including Conduit Connect, The Syndicate Room, Baltic Ventures, LYVA Labs, and deep tech investor Neil Norman.
Professor Dylan Jones-Evans, founder of the UK StartUp Awards, added: “We’ve had some fantastic businesses apply this year and the winners at the first-ever UK final represent the ‘best of the best’ entrepreneurial new businesses from all nations and regions. From innovative ventures developing AI, Cleantech and MedTech to outstanding firms in sectors such as consumer products, fashion and beauty, and tourism and leisure, those that have won this year’s awards demonstrate the incredible entrepreneurial talent that exists across the UK.”
