Installers First launches #IFGSJingle

‘Just one Cornetto,’ ‘Go Compare,’ ‘Washing machines live longer with Calgon,’ ‘If you like a lot of chocolate on your biscuit, join our club,’ remember these?

According to research, jingles rattle around our heads for an average of 50 hours a year. That’s 58 minutes a week lasting around 17 minutes at a time. Imagine if those 58 minutes a week were spent thinking about gas safety?

A gas safety jingle being hummed, sung, or tapped along to, could potentially save lives. And who better to bring this concept to life than the gas installer. They are best placed to know what information homeowners need to hear most, after all gas and heating engineers are the most trusted traders in Britain, and they have already proved their musical ability via #VanPoolKaraoke.
Installers First and Mark Grieves are launching #IFGSJingle – a fun and creative competition with a serious underpinning message.

Mark Grieves, aka @Plymouthgas, owner, Mark Grieves Plumbing and Heating and industry advocate, said: “Gas safety is everybody’s responsibility and not just that of the gas engineer who visits a person’s home or property, by appointment. Everybody has the duty of care to protect life and property, be it their own or that of a neighbour.”

Each year, the Gas Safe Register – supported by the gas industry – runs Gas Safety Week, to boost public awareness. 2017 is set to be the biggest gas safety campaign yet, making full use of social media and the instant connection that gas engineers have with members of the public and industry.

Gas engineers are the undisputed and proven link between the public, governing bodies and the industry and are the best placed to ensure that public awareness is achieved. The #IFGSJingle competition is a fun creative way for passionate gas engineers to raise awareness.

“Gas is the forgotten dangerous substance in a property, which has the potential to cause serious damage and kill, in an instant,” added Mark. “This is one of the reasons why we should all be aware of the dangers and risk involved, in allowing somebody who is not trained, qualified, registered or insured, to work on any gas installation.”

Daniel Cheung, trade marketing manager, at sponsor Sentinel Performance Solutions, said: “I am looking forward to seeing the entries and being involved in what could potentially be a game changing initiative in gas safety.”
