Joe Griffiths, from the Plymouth branch of Graham Plumbers’ Merchant, has won InTec’s Apprentice of the Year Award.
The awards are run annually by the work-based training organisation, with entrants assessed on their attitude, commitment and personal development.
Joe’s apprenticeship is his first full-time job since leaving school. His InTec assessor put him forward for the award. Sandra Chappell, said: “Joe is visually impaired but does not let this stop him achieving his personal and professional goals. Joe has a good rapport with colleagues and customers alike which is evident when I carry out observations. Joe’s motto is to ‘learn something new every day’ and he certainly lives up to this.”
During his apprenticeship Joe completed his Level 1 & Level 2 Function Skills qualifications. He was also commended for his interpersonal skills with customers, positive outlook and dedication.
Joe said: “I’m very excited to have won – it’s a huge achievement for me. I have given 100% in every task, and I have gained so much from this apprenticeship – I would recommend working at Graham to anyone.”
Ian Cockerill, branch manager of the Plymouth branch, added: “Joe has been an excellent member of my team and has added some real value to the business since he started here. He has grown as a person, not only with his customer service skills – but in the way that he interacts with members of the team. He has performed so well that when his apprenticeship came to an end, I was pleased to take him on as a full-time member of my team.”
