Plumber Luke Thompson will run his first marathon in April to raise money for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association, inspired by rugby legend Rob Burrow, who is currently suffering with the disease.
Luke plans to run 26.2 miles from Castleford to Headingley Stadium on 3 April 2021, since he lives in Castleford and is paying homage to the Leeds Rhinos player Rob, who’s last rugby match before retirement was against Castleford.
In addition, Luke has also arranged a raffle within the trade, with various products being donated as prizes from many companies in the industry.
Luke has set up a JustGiving page, which has so far raised £797, 102% of the £777 target.
Luke wrote on his page: “Since the beginning of the first lockdown in March, I found enjoyment in running and doing this daily has built my strength up, mentally and physically.
“People who know me understand this is a big achievement. After living with a bone condition that causes multiple tumours to grow on my joints, and having major surgery to my knee only a few years ago, on a personal level, this is something I thought I’d never be able to achieve.”
