Ian Rippin, CEO at MCS, has commented on the August Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) figures.
Ian said: “The latest government data shows 2,890 applications to the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) in August 2024 – more than double the number of applications in August 2023. Whilst slightly lower than July, August 2024 was the fourth-highest month for BUS applications since the scheme launched.
“According to data from the MCS Data Dashboard, heat pump uptake across the UK continues to rise, with over 40,000 installations so far in 2024, closing in on last year’s record-breaking total of 40,426. Although we’re on track for another record-breaking year, further progress is needed from the industry to meet government targets of installing 600,000 heat pump installations annually by 2028. Driving consumer confidence and building a strong, skilled contractor workforce to deliver installations will be key to driving adoption.
“The BUS requires installations to be MCS certified to qualify for the £7,500 grant and remains a key driver in making low-carbon heating more accessible and affordable. Homeowners and small business owners in England and Wales, who are considering installing a heat pump, should take advantage of the grant and start enjoying the benefits of low carbon heating.”
