Ian Rippin, CEO at MCS, has commented on the latest Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) figures.
The latest government figures show increased uptake of the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, following the announcement in the Autumn Budget of further funding for the scheme.
Ian said: “The latest government data shows 3,223 applications to BUS in September 2024 – a 12% increase from the 2,890 applications in August and nearly triple the number of applications received in September 2023. September also marked the second-highest month for applications since the BUS began, just behind the peak in October 2023, which was the first month that followed the £7,500 grant uplift.
“According to data from the MCS Data Dashboard, 2024 is the best year on record for certified heat pump installations in the UK. In 2023, the UK saw 40,426 certified heat pump installations between January and December, a record at the time. However, the UK has already surpassed that figure, with over 46,000 installations so far in 2024.
“Following the Autumn Budget, we’re pleased to see that the government recognises the growing demand for heat pumps under the BUS and is committed to increasing funding for the scheme. The BUS requires installations to be MCS certified for consumers to qualify for the £7,500 grant, giving them confidence in the quality, safety and performance of their heat pump installation.”
