James Chaplen, head of production and marketing at Mitsubishi Electric, has backed the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ)’s announcement that an additional £25m of funding will be allocated to the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS).

James said: “Mitsubishi Electric welcomes the UK government’s announcement to increase the Boiler Upgrade Scheme budget by an additional £25m for the financial year 2024/2025, bringing the total scheme funding to £205m.

“This increase, along with Ofgem’s approval to over-allocate vouchers up to £280m, will provide much-needed certainty and support to homeowners looking to transition to low-carbon heating solutions.

“The additional funding will help drive further adoption of heat pump technology, making sustainable heating more accessible across the UK.

“There is a massive opportunity in the UK to unlock investment in heat pump manufacturing and to strengthen decarbonisation. This announcement contributes to that. However, industry is anxiously waiting for the government to provide clarity on the Future Homes Standard. This would have an immense impact, providing confidence as the country gears to meeting the government’s housing target and net zero target.”
