National Energy Action responds to energy price cap prediction

Peter Smith, National Energy Action’s director of policy and advocacy, has responded to Cornwall Insight final prediction for the January 2025 energy price cap level.

Cornwall Insight forecasted that energy bills will increase slightly to £1,736 a year for a typical household. This would represent a 1% increase compared to the current price cap level of £1,717, it noted.

Peter Smith, National Energy Action’s director of policy and advocacy, said: “The current cold spell is already having a devastating impact on the most vulnerable people. With unaffordable energy bills and far less support available nationally this winter, millions of people are already rationing their energy use to dangerous levels or getting deeper into debt trying to keep warm.

“Later this week, Ofgem will confirm the price cap for the remainder of the winter. With increased wholesale prices in the last few months, it is no surprise that there will be no let-up in the unaffordable cost of energy. The most vulnerable people will sink into further difficulties and acute hardship.”

National Energy Action’s Fuel Poverty Awareness Day (FPAD) takes place on Wednesday 27 November.
