Selco Builders Warehouse has confirmed all its branches will remain open as normal throughout the lockdown period.

Selco’s 66 branches in England will trade as usual beyond this week, when some other businesses must close due to new Covid-19 restrictions.

The company’s three branches in Wales were also open normally during the country’s shorter firebreak period.

The confirmation comes after the government announced that builders merchants in England will be considered an ‘essential service’ to ensure the nation’s tradespeople can continue to work, Selco said.

It has also been confirmed that tradespeople will be allowed to enter and work in residential properties.

Selco chief executive Howard Luft said: “We are pleased that the government has confirmed builders merchants offer an essential service and can continue to trade through this latest period of heavy restrictions.

“It is vital that tradespeople are able to buy the materials they need to carry out important work in people’s homes. We are here to ensure they can do just that.

“Hopefully better days lay ahead and I once again want to thank all Selco customers for their support and Selco colleagues for their dedication in keeping the business trading safely.”

Selco’s said its Click & Collect and Click & Deliver services have both seen a boom in popularity since the branches reopened following the first lockdown earlier in the year.
