Spirotech, UK manufacturer of dirt separation and deaeration products, has welcomed the Greater London Authority’s (GLA) new London Boiler Cashback Scheme, but urges installers to push the importance of dirt separation as part of any upgrade.

The scheme, announced February 2, could see up to 6,500 homeowners upgrade to a new A-rated boiler via a £400 cashback incentive, as part of a drive to improve heating efficiency and reduce costs for London residents.

While the offer will tempt many to replace outdated and inefficient boilers, it’s important to ensure that such efficiencies can be maximised by fitting the right combination of products, which should always include a dirt separator as part of any new installation.

Kevan Peaker, national sales manager for Spirotech UK, said: “Offering a financial incentive to upgrade old and inefficient boilers will undoubtedly help homeowners to save money on bills and reduce energy waste.

“Because of the sophistication and sensitivity of modern boilers, energy efficiency targets and cost savings can only be fully maximised by the constant removal of dirt from a system, so it’s key that the dirt separation message is also being pushed when we discuss boiler upgrades.

“Modern, A-rated boilers installed without dirt separation may show signs of reduced performance in as little as 12 months after installation, so it’s vital that installers are reinforcing this message to homeowners to maximise the benefits of upgrading. The Boiler Cashback Scheme is a great incentive, and one that could well be rolled out nationally over the longer term, but it also represents a good opportunity to make sure that homeowners are fully aware of all the factors that influence boiler functionality and how to future-proof their investment.”
