Lexi Kelly, who works in Stelrad’s marketing department, used her skills to help a young girl who lives close to her and suffers with a rare medical condition.
Maicie is 10 years old and has lymphangiomatosis. According to a statement, she’s the only person in the UK with the disease and there are only five people in the world with this condition. Lymphangiomatosis can affect Macie’s bones and organs.
She needs a new and specialised wheelchair to replace one that was stolen from her garden. Lexi decided to set up a Just Giving page on social media to seek donations.
The specialist wheelchair which she needs had been refused by wheelchair services as her original was stolen from outside her house, so her parents Steph and Lee needed to fund a new one for her by themselves.
Lexi’s plan was to raise enough money to purchase the new wheelchair. A local businessman saw the appeal and donated the money needed to buy the wheelchair. Lexi has decided to keep the funding page going to pay for a secure lock up for the wheelchair and the amount donated is increasing.
Lexi said: “I’m so pleased the fundraising effort worked so quickly and hugely grateful to the local businessman who donated the money needed to buy the wheelchair. So many other people including Stelrad have donated to the Just Giving page and we should be able to have a safe lock up built for the wheelchair to make sure it doesn’t go missing again!
“Maicie is a sweet girl and she’s always smiling which is amazing for a little girl who has so much to cope with day to day.”
