In support of the global Unblocktober month-long campaign to improve the health of our drains, sewers, watercourses and seas, Drainage Superstore has asked people to change to their kitchen and bathroom habits.
A statement pointed out that many consistently pouring dangerous liquids and items down drains, causing fatbergs to form, blocking drains and sewers and contributing to the plastic pollution crisis.
During Unbloctober, examples of items that should not be flushed include:
- Cooking oil, food, margarine, lard, cooking sauce
- Wet wipes
- Contact lenses, dental floss, razor blades
- Nappies, cotton buds, period products, bandages and plasters
