This Friday, 17th December, will be the busiest day of the year for electricians, plumbers and heating engineers to be called out for emergency home repairs, according to latest research by Toolstation.
Overall, 15% of tradespeople identified it as the most popular day for being called out, as many households start to get prepared for their Christmas festivities and welcome friends and family to their home.
Boilers are the most at risk of breaking down, with over half, 53%, of heating engineers expecting to be called out to repair them.
Almost half, 41%, of tradespeople expect to be called out to fix leaking radiators. With colder weather conditions, 34% of tradespeople also expect that they will have to deal with frozen pipes.
Matt Nourse, commercial director at Toolstation, said: “With a cold snap well underway, it’s worth checking everything is working before you batten down the hatches for Christmas. The combination of cold weather, damp and frost and preparing to host family and friends can put extra stress on parts of the home that are essential for keeping homes warm and dry.”
