To help tradespeople stay safe this season, van leasing company Vanarama has shared five tips on how to decrease the chance of break-in.
Vanarama’s first tip is, ‘Where you go, your tools go’. The company’s representatives have said that expensive tools should not be left unattended in a van overnight and instead tradespeople should take the tools with them.
Representatives’ second tip was ensuring that vans are parked in safe locations. They suggested that tradespeople should not park in an unlit area that doesn’t have any CCTV cameras in sight. If possible, drivers should park the rear doors of the van close to a wall to make it difficult for thieves to get large objects out of the van.
It is also helpful to keep an inventory so tradespeople know if anything is missing. This is is for their own peace of mind as much for insurance purposes, according to Vanarama’s leaders. Keeping a list of everything in the an along with photos makes it easier to spot a theft or missing item quickly. The company also suggested marking initials onto tools with a UV pen. Vanarama representatives said that if a van has rear windows, it’s easy for thieves to see the contents of it. Darkening rear windows will reduce the risk of a van being broken into, they added. The company’s last tip was to hide valuables. Company leaders suggested that tradespeople should ensure any sat navs or gadgets are hidden before leaving the vehicle.
